Parents,
We have had a great week in Room 16! We have started many of our new routines and curriculum. Next week we will begin all our other programs such as computers, library, music, art, and band.
I have enjoyed getting to know our class. They have been working hard and trying their best. They blew me away the other day during class meeting with their compliments to each other. They were so kind and thoughtful!
I hope you all enjoy the nice long weekend! Read below for updates on the curriculum.
Language Arts- This week we read Earthquake Terror. Our lessons were on sequence of events, subject/predicate, and using a thesaurus.
Next week we will be reading Eye of the Storm. Our lessons next week will include text tracking, and conjunctions.
I will also be incorporating spelling during this time. Based on their spelling inventory assessment each student will either be in the spelling study group or the spelling enrichment group. The spelling study group will be working on spelling rules and activities with my para. The spelling enrichment group will be able to pick five “demon” words to work with each week. They will then do spelling activities with those words. I will attach a copy of the spelling enrichment activities to the documents section below for you to look at. Spelling work will all be done IN CLASS. Vocabulary work will be sent home like last week.
Math- We started topic 2 today and will continue it all next week. Topic 2 is on addition and subtraction number sense.
Social Studies- Next week we will be starting Unit 1, The First Americans.
Science- We will be doing a lesson a week in Chapter 7, Types of Matter. This week’s lesson was on elements. Next week’s lesson will be on classifying elements
