Parent Letter
Welcome parents,
This year is going to be a great year for all of us. This year you will see a tremendous amount of growth in your student. Your student will grow academically as well as physically. As your student heads toward middle school, fifth grade becomes a very pivotal grade for your student. I want your student to have the most successful year of his/her life.
My name is Brian Smith. I have been teaching fifth grade since 1993 at Rancho Romero. A few years back I took a year away from fifth grade and taught fourth-grade. During my career, I have taught fourth-grade for a year, fifth grade for fourteen years, and sixth grade for five years. All my teaching has been in Sacramento and Alamo. I graduated and went to graduate school at the California State University of Sacramento. I live in Walnut Creek and have two children and a wife of 29 years. Raising a family and teaching keeps me very busy.
My goal this year is to help your student grow academically and prepare them to be successful at the middle school level. Together I know we will be successful. The team of parents, student, and teacher cannot be beaten. If we all work together as a team your child will become a very successful sixth grader. I have taught the middle school Jump Start program and I also spent my early teaching years teaching sixth grade. I know what fifth graders are supposed to know in order to be successful in sixth grade. I am given a standards-based curriculum by the district and the state and we will meet that curriculum and more. My goal is for every student to meet grade level standards and for many students to achieve at above grade level standards. We must work together to achieve these goals. I will be running a very structured and task oriented classroom this year and I will need your help to keep your student organized and on top of things so we don't lag behind.
