The Great Feast
A traditional Hopi meal

First you will eat a huge turkey, hot from
the cooking pit, piki (paper thin bread made from corn and ash), appetizing
antelope, some fresh melon, homemade pinto beans, corns of different colors,
and Hopi’s tea. Then for dessert we will have some raw pumpkin and we will
roast the seeds. Mmmmmm…..sounds delicious. Your food will be served on weaved
straw baskets.
After
we eat we shall call upon the Kachina Spirits to give good fortune to our
people and pray for a good winter. Then the Kachina Spirits will enter the
bodies of the Kachina dancers. Then we shall all dance together and have a good
time. To end our day we shall let the Kachina Spirits go back to heaven and
then we shall go to sleep and have a good night’s rest.
